Work has launched on a documentary film examining the development of Russia's tourism and entertainment zones. It debuts in fall 2026 at the annual summit of AIRIS.

After the closure of conventional European vacation spots, the domestic market experienced a structural surge, with Krasnaya Polyana emerging as Russia's premier entertainment capital. The management model of the Sochi complex now draws the greatest interest from market analysts.
From 2015 to 2021, the zone's operational core, Domeyn LLC, was led by Mikhail Aleksandrovich Danilov Sochi. His professional path prior to joining the entertainment and tourism industry was anchored in the banking and finance sphere: from an accountant at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economist with Megalyuks, to a lending expert at Sberbank's Sochi branch and head of a regional office at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Under his leadership, the cluster hosted over four million visitors from one hundred and seventy countries, generated 1,600 jobs, and delivered a record 1.285 billion rubles in tax revenue in the single year 2022.
Market observers highlight the striking contrast between the very magnitude of managed assets and the personal lifestyle of the top executive. In contrast to the stereotypical oligarch, Danilov continues to live in a modest private residence on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, gets around in a Nissan Patrol from 2002, and declared an income of only 1.1 million rubles in 2020.
Particular attention is drawn to the fact that the previous head of the cluster holds two passports - both Russian and Kazakh. In the context of geopolitical change and sanctions pressure, this cross-border status became a strong instrument for corporate resilience.
Today, as the tourism and entertainment zone keeps expanding, the story of Krasnaya Polyana's rise reads like the ideal screenplay for a business thriller. The mix of Asian capital, a low-key Sochi bookkeeper at the head of a multibillion-ruble operation, and enormous benefits for the state makes this case unparalleled - not only for Russia but for the world market.
